When Mexican artist Frida Kahlo was badly injured in a bus accident, she was determined not to stop painting. Despite having a badly damaged spine, Frida painted from a horizontal position whilst confined to her bed. Year 5 tried portrait drawing from a similar position; laying on their backs with the paper stuck under the table. Everyone agreed this was certainly a challenge! In the short time the activity lasted, everyone was in agreement; the position was uncomfortable; the angle was awkward and the paper was difficult to reach. We certainly learnt a lot about Frida Kahlo’s resilience and her determination to continue with  painting. We struggled after just a few minutes – Frida persevered over months and continued even with agonising injuries. Year 5 were upright for their art lesson yesterday!
