On Wednesday, Kerry from the Gosport Cultural Education Project joined us to start a three-week sea shanty project with our Year 6 learners – what a fabulous opportunity. The children learned a song that was written about Stokes Bay and the pirates found in the Solent. Over the next few weeks, they will be using samples of their recording of this song, to create something of their own. Interestingly, sea shanties have a lot of history. The shanty was a working song that helped ensure sailors, involved in heavy manual tasks were synchronized in their efforts.
