Kick starting a special year ahead for the local area, Gomer Junior School welcomed Josh Hall, the organiser of the Global Ocean Race 2014-15.

Gosport will be welcoming many skilled and talented sailors to the area over the next year, during the build up to the 9 month round the world sailing race. Starting in Southampton in September 2014 and finishing in Portsmouth during early May 2015, the race provides many challenges to the individuals and teams that participate.
During Josh’s visits, he introduced us to the history of the race, the treacherous route that it follows and answered questions about life onboard. Mr Wilkinson was lucky enough to sport some of the performance clothes worn by the sailors in the extreme conditions!

Many of the characteristics needed from the men and women involved in the race provide excellent examples of some of our very own ‘learning powers’ (independence, collaboration, resilience, thinking, motivation and creativity). As a result, we will be linking projects to the event during the year and hope to keep track of the race once it begins.
You can read more about the race at the official website here (direct link).
