Packed Lunch & Breaktime Snacks

If providing food from home, we strongly encourage children to bring a healthy, balanced packed lunch that will give them the energy they need to learn and play well throughout the day. A healthy packed lunch might include a sandwich, wrap, roll, pasta or rice dish (for example pasta salad or samosas), alongside fruit or vegetable sticks, a yoghurt or similar dairy option, and a drink.

As a Healthy School, breaktime snacks need to be healthy. Suitable examples include:

  • fresh or dried fruit
  • vegetable sticks
  • rice cakes or oatcakes or popcorn
  • plain crackers
  • yoghurt or cheese portions

These options help children maintain steady energy levels and support concentration in class.

If you choose to include items such as crisps or chocolate, these are to be saved for lunchtime only, and included in moderation if at all. This approach reflects national healthy eating guidance for schools and supports children in developing positive, lifelong food habits.

Packed lunches are stored on a trolley and moved to the school hall. You may wish to include an ice block to help keep food cool. Children will eat their lunch either outside in our picnic area, in the school hall or in their classroom. Our lunchtime team work hard to encourage children to eat well and enjoy their food.

To support recycling and help you see what has been eaten, all packaging (except yoghurt pots or very messy items) is sent home at the end of the day.

Thank you for supporting our Healthy School focus and for working with us to promote children’s wellbeing, health and readiness to learn.
