King’s Academy Gomer continues to allocate funds to a range of sporting activities, coaching and equipment which will provide better opportunities for all pupils to develop their Physical Education skills and enhance their opportunities throughout their time with us. It is important to the school that our pupils have opportunities to experience sports which may not ordinarily be available to them out of school.

King’s Academy Gomer was been awarded the Gold School Games Mark for 2024/25. This is a fantastic recognition of our commitment to school sport and physical activity. This Government-led award, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust, celebrates schools that go above and beyond in promoting competition and participation both within school and the wider community.

At KA Gomer, we take pride in offering a rich and inclusive sporting curriculum. We champion those children with a natural sporting flair and ensure those who need extra encouragement are supported every step of the way. Our extra-curricular clubs are thriving. Importantly, we strive to introduce our pupils to a wide range of sports they may not usually encounter, including bowls, fencing, and paddleboarding. It’s about opportunity, teamwork, and growing confidence. Our sporting calendar has been packed this year with inter-school competitions and exciting events, and we are so proud of all our pupils for taking part; not just as competitors but also as sports leaders, volunteers, and officials.

Bronze Games Award
King’s Academy Gomer acheived the School Games Bronze Mark Award for the 2022/23 academic year. The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward and recognise school’s engagement (provision and uptake) in the School Games against a national benchmark and to celebrate keeping young people active, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
We are proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of physical activity and school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our events possible. We are committed to using the School Games to try and engage those young people who haven’t previously been active or represented our school and to try and ensure that all our students have a positive experience and want to try out new activities beyond school too in our community. We believe in the power of physical activity and school sports as a school and give opportunities to those young people who need it most either as a participant, leaders, officials or volunteers.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas linked to the five School Games outcomes and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.
We look forward to applying next year and pushing for SILVER!
