On Friday 12 May, working with Gomer Infant School, we provided the Gomer Community with a variety of Emergency Services Day themed activities. The purpose of the day was to raise awareness of the Emergency Services and the activities were age appropriate, so content varied between the two schools. A highlight for all the children was meeting Emergency Services personnel. We had representatives from: the Ambulance Service, Coastguard, GAFIRS, Fire Service and the Police. We have many parents/cares in our community who serve within these services and it was great seeing them in their uniform at school. The Ambulance Service mascot, Wheeze the dog, was a firm favourite with the children. Children accross the school dressed up or accessorised their uniform with different Emergency Services in exchange for donations. Gomer Junior raised £228.12 and Gomer Infant raised £283 with their non-uniform donations and cake sale proceeds. Alongside the £200 awarded to us from The National Union of Teachers Gosport and Fareham Association we have almost secured all the funds we need to purchase and install a community defibrillator. Go Gomer! The money we will receive from The Waitrose token scheme will finalise the project. This great story will appear in The News this week
