Y4 have been really busy learning about the changes of state. They learned about the processes of how heat changes the state of a solid into a liquid and carried out an investigation to explore how different solids melt. They melted ice, butter and chocolate- all solids starting at different temperatures. After a safety brief, Y4 timed the process and explored the reasons behind the results.
To conclude our investigation, Team Gomer turned the Y4 children into ice-cream makers! They had several liquid ingredients to solidify into vanilla ice-cream. Using ice and salt to freeze the liquid, they shook their mix (which was in a separate bag!) until the mixture froze. Some Y4 children quoted how it tasted just like a McFlurry!
As we have a lot of ice-cream left, Year 4 are invited to bring in their favourite topping for some more tasting on Thursday afternoon. A small bag or tub is enough.
