We love reading at Gomer and today was an opportunity to celebrate all things books – and celebrate we did! World Book Day promotes reading for pleasure and offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own (do try and spend your token). Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success. We aim for all our children to develop a life-long habit of reading for pleasure. Today we encouraged this by celebrating books in different ways including:

– children were invited to dress as their favourite book characters

– staff dressed-up as characters from graphic novels/comics

– children completed a ‘footy and booky quiz’

– book assembly

– Big Booky Bake-off cake sale (with so many donations we will be selling again tomorrow)

– live online learning with the BBC

– book review writing

– and design a library

More photos to follow tomorrow… And, you can catch us in The News too.
