In Year 3, children have been revisiting their learning on telling the time using an analogue clock. They have explored the different parts of the clock, including the hour hand, minute hand, and second hand, and how each one moves to show different times. Through interactive activities, they have reinforced their understanding that the shorter hour hand moves slowly, while the longer minute hand moves more quickly around the clock. The children have also revisited how the numbers on the clock represent hours, with each one marking a position for the hour hand to point to.

To support their learning at home, we encourage parents and carers to help children practise telling the time throughout the day. Making it a fun and regular activity—such as asking children to read the time before meals, bedtime, or when heading out—can greatly improve their confidence. As digital clocks become more common, these daily interactions with analogue clocks will help children develop an important life skill.

Why not challenge your child to tell the time at different moments during the day? Every bit of practice makes a big difference!
