This term, Year 6 is diving into an exciting science unit all about the human body, focusing on the circulatory system. Through investigative learning, we are exploring key questions such as:

🔬 How does the heart pump blood around the body?
🔬 What are the different types of blood vessels?
🔬 What does our blood contain and what does it do?
🔬 How is our blood oxygenated?

To bring this learning to life, we launched our topic with an incredible hands-on experience—dissecting a lamb’s heart! As the closest anatomical match to a human heart, this provided a unique opportunity for our students to examine the chambers, valves, and blood vessels up close.

During the dissection, we observed:
🫀 The left and right atriums and ventricles and how the valves ensure blood flows in only one direction.
🫀 The aorta, the largest artery in the body, as well as other veins and arteries.
🫀 The difference in muscle wall thickness between the left and right sides—why do you think one side is much thicker?

Year 6 showed fantastic engagement, curiosity, and maturity throughout the lesson. We are excited to continue our learning journey into the amazing human body and discover even more fascinating facts.

Keep an eye on our website for more updates on our science adventures.
