Have you ever looked up at a skyscraper and felt tiny? Have you ever wondered why things appear smaller the further away they are? Year 6 have been fully immersed in their art topic on ‘perspective’, exploring how we represent three-dimensional objects on two-dimensional surfaces.

After studying the work of architect Raymond Hood, who designed iconic buildings such as the Rockefeller Centre in New York, we have been learning about vanishing points, horizon lines, and how to create depth in drawings.

To bring this learning to life, Mr Mulhall treated us to an incredible session using VR headsets! We were transported into bustling cityscapes filled with towering skyscrapers, giving us a first-hand experience of how buildings appear to ‘disappear’ into the vanishing point above. It was amazing to feel as if we were in a different place, all while standing in our school hall! Many Year 6 pupils described the experience as ‘so real’ and ‘awesome’!

Inspired by our virtual exploration, we have now begun our own perspective drawings of skyscrapers, which we will continue to develop throughout the half term. We can’t wait to see how our artwork takes shape!
