We are excited to bring you an update about our resident Woodpecker family! Since our last post, we’ve now spotted both the mum and dad regularly visiting the nest they’ve created in one of our redundant cherry trees. This special tree is right in the middle of our picnic area, so the woodpeckers tend to keep to themselves during the busy school day. However, we’re often treated to sightings of them flying out in the late afternoon and early evening – a beautiful sight! We feel incredibly fortunate to have been chosen as their nesting spot.

We think the woodpeckers might even be comforted by the sound of children playing and learning nearby. It’s a lovely reminder of how wildlife and school life can share space in harmony.

Did You Know?
Woodpecker chicks usually fledge (leave the nest) around 20 to 24 days after hatching. During this time, both parents take turns feeding the chicks and keeping the nest safe. Once ready, the young birds make their first brave flight into the world!

We will keep you posted with any more exciting news about our feathered friends. In the meantime, keep your eyes (and ears!) open when you’re in the picnic area – you might just spot them yourself!
