As part of their science learning, Year 6 have been investigating adaptation and how animals evolve over time. Inspired by the famous Galápagos finches, the children explored how different ‘beaks’ are suited to different types of food.

Through hands-on experiments, they discovered which beak shapes were most effective for picking up certain foods – just like the finches did in the wild! This led to brilliant discussions about inherited characteristics and how the most successful traits are passed down through generations, eventually leading to adaptation across a species.

It was a fantastic way to bring evolution to life in the classroom!
