As part of our ongoing commitment to offering children a wide range of sporting experiences, our Year 6 pupils have been learning how to play bowls at the Gosport & District Bowling Club on Anglesey Road.

Bowls is a precision sport that dates back hundreds of years and involves rolling weighted balls (called bowls) to rest as close as possible to a smaller white ball, known as the jack. It’s a game that requires skill, patience, and a good eye and our pupils took to it with great enthusiasm.

The Gosport Bowling Club, established in 1927, has long been a part of the local community. With its beautifully maintained green and welcoming volunteers, it provided an ideal setting for our children to try something new. We strongly believe in making the most of our local area to enrich the curriculum and inspire children to find joy in new activities they might not otherwise encounter. This opportunity introduced our pupils to a traditional yet less commonly taught sport and one that values calm concentration, strategy, and teamwork.

We are incredibly grateful to the club for hosting us. Staff and members commented on how impeccably behaved the children were throughout their sessions. This is a wonderful reflection of our school values in action. We look forward to building more of these community connections and opening up further opportunities for all children to experience the benefits of sport, stay active, and maybe even discover a new lifelong passion.
