In science, Year 4 is learning about electricity and circuits. Last week they all constructed a simple circuit and drew a scientific diagram to show what they had created.
This week, they investigated how switches work in a circuit asking what do they actually do and how?
Each team made two different types of switches and then put the switch into a circuit to see if they could use it to turn the bulb on and off. Everyone was successful in this and the amazement and wonder was awesome to see as Yr4 discussed why this happens. They noticed that when the metal components were touching the bulb lit up. Discussing this they realised that the metal touching allowed current to flow through, but that some materials do not allow electrical current to flow round the circuit so this is how switches can turn things on and off – through connection of the correct materials.
Well done Year 4 – great work!
