Year 4 have been deepening their understanding of the concept of ‘devotion’ through their Hinduism unit on Mahashivaratri. Yesterday, they had an opportunity to take part in a role-played aarti ceremony in school. Led by Mrs Mulhall (who is an RE specialist) and Mrs Carre, our RE Leader, the children stepped into role as they entered our pretend temple in the hall. Demonstrating great respect, they even removed their shoes before taking part—just as they would in a real temple. They also wore headscarves to remind them that they were in ‘role’. During the session, the children showed fantastic engagement as they learned about Lord Shiva and how he is celebrated during Mahashivaratri. They listened to a traditional story to build on their understanding, which they will now apply in their writing. The role-play encouraged them to use all their senses, helping them to connect more deeply with the experience. Well done, Year 4, for your enthusiasm, respect, and thoughtful participation! We can’t wait to see how you bring your learning to life in your work.
