As part of our DT and Science learning, Year 6 researched and designed a healthy alternative to a take away pizza. They had to find a recipe for making the base from scratch, and then think about some healthy toppings. After writing a method, list of ingredients and buying the ingredients needed, Year 6 were incredibly excited to actually make their pizzas! Teamwork, communication, organisation and perseverance were all needed to work in their groups, and it was fantastic to see how each group worked so well together. From yoghurt and flour bases, to banana or carrot bases, stuffed crusts, chicken tikka, a lot of sweetcorn, herbs and garlic, there was a huge variety of different pizzas – all of which looked, smelt and tasted delicious and the corridor was soon filled with the delicious smell of fresh pizzas! Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed taste testing their pizzas, and by the end of the afternoon, there wasn’t a huge amount left to take home! We were really proud of how the whole year group were focussed, sensible and supported each other. Some children even said their healthy pizza was ‘better than dominoes!’ A wonderful afternoon with wonderful memories made, with plenty of learning amongst the fun.
