Talk about ‘love where you live’. Year 6 kicked off their activities week today with a super sunny morning at the beautiful Stokes Bay. After checking we all had lunches, water, suncream and hats (almost a full house – well done Year 6!), we made our way to the beach, where we found a welcome breeze to keep us cool. We popped up a couple of shades that Mrs Thurston’s dad (that Year 6 remembered from Year 3 as ‘The Bee Man!’) brought for us.
We started our beach morning with some challenges on the pebbles. Year 6 had to work in teams or individually to build the tallest and narrowest tower out of pebbles, find as many stones as they could with holes right through (some of the holes were miniscule, but still counted!), rocks that looked like heart shapes, the soundest stone and the biggest or smallest pebbles. They embraced these challenges fantastically well and really enjoyed exploring the beach in different ways.
We then headed back to the field for some team games, a rest, lunch and the eagerly anticipated ice creams! Year 6 conducted themselves very well, and were very respectful of the other beach and field users. Once we were back at school and had cooled off, we had a little go at making some prosthetic arms using the lego spike kits.
A great first day, lots of brilliant team work and we are excited for the rest of our week!
