We are incredibly proud to share that King’s Academy Gomer recently attended the Gosport in Bloom Awards and came away with an array of Gold and Silver awards. This recognition is a wonderful reflection of our school’s commitment to nurturing both our outdoor spaces and the values of responsibility, teamwork and community spirit.
At Gomer, gardening is much more than planting seeds; it is part of who we are. We believe in all-year gardening, with every season offering new opportunities for our children to connect with nature, learn about sustainability, and enjoy the outdoors. Our ‘Groundforce’ sessions are a particular highlight in the school calendar. These special days bring together pupils, parents, carers, grandparents and staff, all working side-by-side to care for and improve our grounds. Whether it’s digging, planting, weeding or designing, everyone contributes and the results are blooming marvellous.
We are especially grateful to Mrs Carre, who leads our gardening programme with such energy and dedication. Thanks to her green-fingered leadership, our Gomer Growers group has gone from strength to strength. From raised beds filled with vegetables to pollinator-friendly planters, our grounds are a vibrant, living classroom that reflect our ethos of Honesty, Faith and Courage and our commitment to learning beyond the walls of the classroom.
We also extend heartfelt thanks to every member of our community who helps look after our school environment. Your time, effort and support, whether during Groundforce Days or simply by encouraging our young gardeners, help make our school the special place it is.
Gosport in Bloom is a fantastic local celebration of gardening and environmental pride, and we are delighted to be a part of it. Here’s to even more growing together in the year ahead!
