Introducing King’s Academy Gomer’s Council 2025-2026

23.9.25: Our new School Council met for the first time this morning and what a brilliant start. The successful candidates were excited to share why they wanted to represent their classmates this year. Elsie is keen about the chance to meet the Mayor, while Leo and Sebastian are curious to find out what the role involves and how they can make a difference. Freddie has stepped out of his comfort zone to ‘just go for it’ in his final year at Gomer. Lottie knows she is kind and caring and wants to inspire that in others, with Lucy also eager to promote kindness across our community. Henry is looking forward to hearing everyone’s ideas and seeing what positive changes the Council can bring.

The team already has their first exciting opportunity: next week they will meet a visitor from the Department for Education. Councillors have been encouraged to prepare questions and to think about something they love about our school to share during the visit. We’re proud of their enthusiasm and can’t wait to see what they achieve this year.

Highlights from 2024-2025

On 2 October, we held our first meeting with the newly elected School Council! The children were buzzing with excitement as they came together to share their ideas and thoughts about ways to make our school even better. A huge thank you to all the children who put themselves forward, and congratulations to the eight students who were voted in by their classmates. Mrs Fry is eager to work closely with the council this year, and we can’t wait to see the positive changes they’ll bring!

In late November our School Council were delighted to visit the Gosport Mayor, Councillor Earle, at the Town Hall. The children represented our school with pride and demonstrated what wonderful ambassadors they are. The visit included a chance to meet the Mayor and learn about the role of local government in our community. They looked around the Mayor’s meeting spaces and impressed everyone with their thoughtful, planned-out questions, showing both curiosity and a genuine interest in civic life. The School Council returned to school inspired and full of ideas. They are excited to use what they learned, along with the photos from their visit, to plan an engaging assembly for the rest of the school. This assembly will be an opportunity to share their experience, educate their peers about local government, and encourage others to consider how they can contribute to our community. Well done to the School Council for their exemplary conduct and insightful questions.
