Do you care about shaping young lives and want to make a difference in your local community? Have some time and energy to spare? If so, we would love to hear from you because Governance is one of the most rewarding ways to make a tangible difference and build your own capabilities. We currently have vacancies for Community-based Governors.
Why join us? At King’s Academy Gomer, we’re proud of our recent Ofsted inspection, where we were judged good for quality of education and leadership, and outstanding in behaviour, attitudes and personal development. The report praised how ‘pupils are proud of their school and are keen to talk about it’, and noted staff hold high expectations for all. We strive to be an inclusive, vibrant, forward-thinking school, committed to ‘opportunities and success on a global stage’.
As part of King’s Group Academies, we benefit from shared training, expertise, and support across our trust. We are looking for governors who reflect the diversity of our community and who bring fresh ideas, energy, and a genuine commitment to shaping our future. Our existing governors provide a strong balance of support and challenge, and we are keen to build on this strength as we continue to grow.

You do not need prior governance experience, just enthusiasm, integrity and a commitment to our pupils’ success.
What you’ll be involved in: Governors at KA Gomer play a vital role in:
- Safeguarding – ensuring the welfare and safety of every child
- Standards – monitoring educational outcomes and holding leaders to account
- Stakeholders – representing the community, parents, staff and pupils
- Sustainability & strategy – helping us plan long-term, resilient growth
You will work in partnership with our Executive Headteacher and Senior Leadership team, contributing to a forward-looking, supportive governing board. Our current board includes:
- 2 parent governors
- 1 staff governor
- 1 co-opted governor
- The Executive Headteacher
- The Associate Headteacher
We also have a Governance Partner (clerk) to guide us.
We currently have vacancies for Community-based Governors.
Time commitment: We ask governors to contribute approximately:
- 2 evening meetings per term: 5-7pm
- 1 evening training session per year
- At least one daytime visit per term
That said, flexibility is possible and any additional involvement (e.g. joining committees or working groups) is optional.
What you will gain:
- Help shape the life chances of young people in your community
- Develop skills in governance, strategic thinking, evaluation and leadership
- Engage in meaningful local community service
- Network with other dedicated and passionate volunteers
- Receive training and support through the King’s Group Academies
