We were excited to launch Slipper Friday at the start of term – a brilliant idea that came straight from our School Council and has been backed by our pupils in a show of democracy in action!
Last term, the School Council ran a campaign asking whether children would like to wear slippers in school on Fridays. After careful planning and gathering pupil voice, we held a whole-school vote. An impressive 162 children voted yes to the idea – a clear majority! This is a fantastic example of how we live out our British Values, particularly democracy, as our children are given real opportunities to have their voices heard and influence school life.
So, from now on, children are welcome to bring a pair of indoor slippers to wear on Fridays. Pupils should still arrive in their usual school shoes and change into slippers once indoors. This small change is already bringing lots of comfort and smiles to the classroom!
Please note: the attached photo was taken on a recent non-uniform day – this is why you may spot children in colourful outfits!
As we look ahead to tomorrow’s Slipper Friday, we’re especially looking forward to seeing slippers teamed with red, white and blue outfits (or a combination of the three) as we mark our VE Day commemorations in school.
Slipper Fridays are, of course, optional – but very warmly welcomed!
