This week, our school community came together in unity and respect as we marked the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day — a moment in history when World War II ended in Europe and peace was declared.

Yesterday, we paused to reflect on the significance of the occasion. At midday, we joined the nation in observing a two-minute silence, honouring those who served and sacrificed for our freedom.

Today, we dressed proudly in red, white and blue and welcomed our friends from Gomer Infant School, along with many of our parents and carers, for a special shared celebration. Our youngest pupils in Year R and Year 1 sang beautifully, filling the field with their gorgeous voices. Children from Years 1 to 6 wowed us with their fantastic dancing. They performed so brilliantly that we asked them to do it all over again! Our parents and carers were full of praise, and the smiles on everyone’s faces said it all.

After enjoying a picnic on the field together, we rose to sing the National Anthem under glorious sunshine which was a perfect way to end a very special morning.

Did you know? Gosport played an important role in the Second World War as a major embarkation point for Allied forces on D-Day in June 1944. Troops and equipment left from Stokes Bay just down the road from our school. This is a powerful reminder of our town’s proud history and the importance of remembering VE Day.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this moving and memorable event.
