We are delighted to share that King’s Academy Gomer has won another national attendance award. This award recognises the strong attendance of our pupils and the commitment shown by children, families and staff to being in school every day, ready to learn.

Celebrating success and supporting families

  • Children with attendance of 96% or above will receive a congratulatory email, before half-term, to celebrate this achievement.
  • Families of children currently below 96% will also hear from us. These emails are intended to supportive and focused on working together to see whether attendance can be increased, removing barriers wherever possible.

Attendance in context

Nationally, schools have faced ongoing challenges with attendance since the pandemic, including an unusually early and widespread flu season this autumn. Despite this, data from around 10,000 schools shows that overall absence levels are broadly similar to last year, and King’s Academy Gomer continues to perform strongly within this picture.

Illness-related absence rose nationally during November, particularly ahead of Christmas, but this did not lead to a significant increase in overall absence across the term. Importantly, unauthorised absence has remained stable.

Why attendance matters

Being in school every day makes a real difference. Good attendance supports:

  • stronger progress in learning
  • positive routines and wellbeing
  • friendships and a sense of belonging

We are incredibly grateful to our families for prioritising attendance and for working with us when challenges arise. This award reflects a shared commitment to giving every child the best possible start.

Thank you for being such a supportive and engaged school community. Together, we will keep building on this success.
