World Book Day brought plenty of excitement to King’s Academy Gomer this year as staff came to school dressed as inspiring real-life figures from the much-loved Little People, Big Dreams biography series.
The Little People, Big Dreams books have been translated into more than 40 languages and are enjoyed by children all over the world. Each book introduces young readers to an inspirational person who achieved something remarkable, from musicians and scientists to artists, sportspeople and world leaders. What they all share is that they began life as very little people with very big dreams.
By bringing these figures to life, staff hoped to inspire our pupils to explore a wide range of reading, including non-fiction biographies. These stories show children that success can come from many different backgrounds, countries and cultures, and that curiosity, creativity and determination can take you anywhere.
The series celebrates the idea that learning about real people can be just as exciting as fiction. It also helps children see how individuals who followed their passions and dreams went on to shape the world around them.
We hope that our celebrations encouraged every child at Gomer to pick up a book, discover new heroes and remember that their own dreams can be just as big. After all, every great story begins with someone who dared to dream.
