We place great value on developing the whole child, and a recent Year 6 PE session was a perfect example of this in action. The children took part in a series of engaging and challenging activities designed to build not only physical skills, but also communication, teamwork, creativity and resilience.
They began with a mini-marathon challenge, where the children showed determination and perseverance right from the start. This set the tone for the rest of the session, encouraging everyone to push themselves and support one another. Next came a particularly tricky challenge: sitting in a circle, but with no chairs and no sitting on the floor allowed! This task required imaginative thinking and strong teamwork, as pupils worked together to find creative solutions.
The “hook the leg” challenge followed, where balance and coordination quickly became essential. Laughter filled the court as the children experimented, adapted, and encouraged each other to keep trying. Finally, the children were tasked with rolling a ball from one end of the court to the other, but with a twist: the ball could not touch the floor, and hands were not allowed. This challenge truly tested their problem-solving skills, communication, and ability to collaborate effectively.
Mrs Thurston and Mrs Guyett-Smith thoroughly enjoyed seeing the determination with which the children approached each task, as well as the joy and pride on their faces throughout the session.
A fantastic afternoon of learning, teamwork, and fun — well done, Year 6!
