Our Year 5 children have been taking part in Bikeability this week, enjoying some lovely weather whilst developing such an important life skill.
Bikeability is the government’s national cycle training programme. It teaches children how to ride safely and confidently on today’s roads, helping them to become more independent, aware, and responsible cyclists. The programme covers everything from basic bike checks and control skills through to road safety, signalling, positioning, and understanding how to stay safe around traffic.
Learning to cycle safely is such an important skill for children. Not only does it encourage healthy lifestyles and physical activity, but it also helps build confidence, resilience, independence, and awareness of the world around them. Cycling can also support more sustainable travel and helps children develop lifelong habits that benefit both their wellbeing and the environment.
We have been incredibly proud of the way our Year 5 pupils have approached the training. They listened carefully, showed excellent teamwork and behaviour, and demonstrated great determination as they developed their cycling skills throughout the week.
A huge thank you goes to the Bikeability instructors for their support, patience, and encouragement, and well done to all of our Year 5 children for representing the school so brilliantly.
