We are delighted to announce that King’s Academy Gomer has been awarded the Intermediate International School Award by the British Council. This achievement recognises our international work happening across our school, helping our pupils grow into confident, compassionate global citizens. Three of our 2025-2026 international activities include:
🇪🇸 Spanish Partnership Throughout the year, our pupils worked closely with their peers at our partner school in Valencia, Spain. Using digital tools, they took part in live online meetings, carried out joint research and created shared presentations – developing brilliant 21st-century skills along the way. Pupils exchanged Christmas traditions and songs, boosting their language skills and cultural understanding, and reflected on the similarities and differences between their lives and those of their friends in Spain.
⛷️ Winter Olympics To mark the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, pupils were introduced to the event through a whole-school assembly before enjoying our very own Mini Winter Olympics, organised by our International Ambassadors. It was a wonderful chance to celebrate global sporting culture while having fun together as a school community.
🌱 Global Stage Forum & SDG Project Our International Ambassadors attended the inaugural King’s Group Academies’ Global Forum, then shared their learning with the whole school in assembly. This inspired a school-wide project on food waste and sustainability, with pupils’ artwork proudly displayed on our International Dimension noticeboard for everyone to enjoy.
What the British Council Said
The assessor praised our application as “very good,” highlighting our robust motivation for international work, our dedicated International Dimension pages on the school website, and the excellent impact our activities have had on pupils, staff and the wider school community.
What’s Next?
With this foundation in place, we are already looking ahead to applying for Accreditation of the International School Award. A huge congratulations to our pupils, staff and International Ambassadors (pictured here) for making this achievement possible. And with thanks to Mrs MAwby who leads our International Ambassadors.
