Our Year 5 children have been exploring the vibrant and distinctive style of Frida Kahlo, one of the most famous Mexican artists of the 20th century. Kahlo is best known for her bold self-portraits, her use of vivid colours, and the way she used art to express her identity, emotions, and culture.

Taking inspiration from her striking imagery, the children created their own collage artworks, experimenting with colour, shape, and pattern to produce pieces that are every bit as eye-catching as Kahlo’s original work. They particularly enjoyed using collage as a medium to layer textures and bring their designs to life.

The finished pieces are bright, colourful, and full of personality; just like the artist who inspired them. The children were rightly proud of their designs and loved seeing how different interpretations of the same inspiration could produce such unique results.
