What an incredible start Year 5 had at Stubbington Residential Centre yesterday, with a day packed full of adventure, learning, and plenty of laughs (and biscuits). A little drizzle greeted them on arrival, but it certainly didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. Once settled in, the children headed straight into the conservation area on a mission to find the famous Stubby Fox.

After all that fresh air, a hearty lunch was very welcome. The afternoon brought exploration and teamwork as the children embraced everything the site had to offer, from conquering the adventure playground to making great use of the games room. The outdoor spaces were full of energy and excitement.

A highlight of the day was the series of team-building challenges, where pupils worked brilliantly together to earn valuable points for their house groups. Their enthusiasm, cooperation and determination were wonderful to see.

After a filling dinner, the group moved on to an evening of artistic and ecological discovery. The children spent time sketching wildlife up close, showing real artistic talent, before enjoying a spectacular wildlife presentation from the photographer behind the incredible images.

Supper, complete with another biscuit, was followed by a visit to the hide. The children showed remarkable patience and silent observation skills, rewarded with sightings of badgers and foxes moving just metres away. Then it was back to the dormitories for PJs, a wash, and some well-earned rest.

Day 2 proved just as successful. The weather was beautiful, and although the previous night offered limited sleep for some, spirits remained high. The evening drizzle did nothing to dampen the children’s enthusiasm. Mrs Mulhall arrived in time for dinner and a spot of bat hunting with Year 5, adding even more excitement to the evening’s activities.

Roll on Day 3…
