Today our school was a sea of colour, comfort and creativity as children (and staff!) came to school wearing their onesies and all for a brilliant cause. Alongside the fun, we took time to learn about Type 1 diabetes, raising awareness and funds for Diabetes UK.
What is Type 1 diabetes?
- Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition where the body stops producing insulin.
- It is not caused by diet or lifestyle and currently has no cure.
- People with Type 1 diabetes need daily insulin to manage their blood glucose levels.
How does it affect people in the UK?
- Around 400,000 people in the UK live with Type 1 diabetes, including many children and young people.
- It can affect anyone, at any age, and people live full, active lives with the right support.
Signs to look out for (often remembered as the “4 Ts”):
- Toilet – going to the toilet more often
- Thirsty – feeling very thirsty
- Tired – feeling more tired than usual
- Thinner – unexplained weight loss
Knowing these signs can help people get early diagnosis and treatment, which is vital.
A huge thank you 💙
Thank you so much to everyone who donated. We are already at 92% of our target. Your generosity will help support research, education and families living with Type 1 diabetes. Our JustGiving page is still live, so there is still time to contribute if you haven’t already. It was such an important day: learning together, showing kindness, and having a bit of onesie fun along the way. Well done, everyone!
