This month, our Genre of the Month is Classic Books! Carefully selected by our school Librarian and introduced to the children by Mrs Mulhall, this exciting genre gives pupils the chance to discover some much-loved stories that have been enjoyed by readers for generations.

Throughout the month, children are encouraged to choose a classic book from the library, enjoy reading it, and then share their thoughts by completing a library book review. This helps pupils reflect on what they’ve read and recommend books to others.

Classic books are also being shared and discussed during Top Table on Fridays, where children can talk about the stories, characters and themes they’ve discovered. These discussions help to build confidence, comprehension skills and a love of reading.

Some of the classic titles the children may come across include:

  • The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
  • Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
  • The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
  • Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie
  • The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett

Classic stories often explore powerful themes such as friendship, courage and imagination, making them just as meaningful today as when they were first written.

So… get your classics out, visit the library, and enjoy stepping into some truly timeless tales!
