Year 4 have been deepening their understanding of the concept of devotion through their Hinduism unit, focusing on Mahashivaratri, a significant Hindu festival celebrated in February each year.

Today, the children took part in a role-played aarti ceremony in school. Led by Mrs Carre, our RE Leader, pupils stepped into role as they entered a ‘temple’ space in the hall. Showing excellent respect and maturity, the children removed their shoes before taking part, just as they would in a real temple, and wore headscarves to help them remain in role throughout the experience.

During the session, pupils learned about Lord Shiva and how he is honoured during Mahashivaratri. They listened attentively to a traditional story, which will now support and enrich their upcoming writing. The immersive role-play encouraged children to use all their senses, helping them to connect more deeply with the learning.

The children were exceptionally well behaved and demonstrated thoughtful engagement, curiosity, and respect throughout. Well done, Year 4, for embracing this experience so positively. We look forward to seeing how you bring this learning to life in your work.
