Last week, Year 4 enjoyed a workshop delivered by Chartwells who are the catering compamy serviogn KA Gomer. Linked with their Geography learning, ‘Our Planet’ and Personal Development Learning (citizenship ‘looking after our environment’), children explored how their food choices can impact the environment. From why we have Meat-Free Mondays (meat production creates more carbon), to considering our food wastage and why buying locally can be environmentally friendly. Children then discussed the pros and cons of plastic, and reflected on the impact this material has on our planet (and other creatures living on it). They built upon their understanding of what we mean by – REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE and even calculated their own carbon footprints! Children engaged really well and demonstrated thoughtfulness in their contributions. They were keen to take home the sheet given to them to discuss with their families at home how they could reduce their carbon footprint. Thank you Chartwells.
