As we look back on some of our favourite learning experiences, we are reminded of this fantastic Year 3 trip to Staunton Country Farm. Although it was a little while ago, it remains a wonderful memory and an important part of the children’s learning journey. The children enjoyed meeting the farmyard animals and had the opportunity to feed the friendly goats, pigs and cows, including Eliza and Gemma. As part of their Science learning, they explored the tropical glasshouse, discovering a range of fascinating tropical plants while learning about the different layers of the rainforest, including the emergent layer, canopy, understory and forest floor. The day also called for plenty of courage, with the children bravely holding giant African land snails and even a giant cockroach! These memorable encounters provided great inspiration for their subsequent poetry writing about some of nature’s most misunderstood creatures. It was a brilliant day filled with hands-on learning, curiosity, confidence and plenty of smiles – one that Year 3 will remember for a long time.
